Maywood, IL...The support of the community is vital in PTHS 209’s efforts to continue to build bridges to success. So when Wal-Mart in Forest Park announced that they would donate three brand new HP computers to support Proviso East High School’s digital arts classes District 209 offered grand thanks.

"When you have an organization in your community as large as Wal-Mart supporting education and supporting the students here, you can only give thanks," said PTHS 209 Board President Chris Welch. "Their support means a great deal to our students, our faculty, and our staff. We are proud to say that we have such supportive relationships with businesses in our community. From Wal-Mart, to Best Buy, to ARAMARK--we are grateful for their support and their overall contributions."

When Mark Dennison, manager of the Wal-Mart store in Forest Park, heard that Proviso East students needed more computers to complete their project for the Village of Maywood, he responded immediately. Dennison’s electronics manager, Jamal Whitney, is a 1993 graduate of Proviso East High School. Mr. Dennison talked with Jamal and the two began to prepare new computers for delivery.
"At Wal-Mart we believe in community outreach and education," said Dennison. "When we found out that the students of Proviso East needed computers to complete their projects, we were glad to help.  If our small donation can help support students and students learning, we are glad to do it.  I’m glad we could be a part of that [supporting student learning]."

With new computers on hand, Proviso East’s digital arts classes will continue to work on various projects within the community, including new "Welcome to Maywood" signs. The students will develop several creations to mark the Village of Maywood and its rich heritage. As soon as the computers were delivered, students began completing their project for the presentation. They also sent a warm "thank you" to Wal-Mart.

"We are truly grateful that Wal-Mart was so generous in their donation to our program," said Proviso East art teacher, Ms. Tonon. "The laptops have helped give our students the opportunity to continue with their success in our photography and digital studio classes. We are truly grateful."

Thank you Mr. Dennison, Mr. Whitney, and Wal-Mart. You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
