Proviso West High School Key Club Serves to Spread Holiday Cheer

December 14, 2012 03:30 PM
Hillside, IL...The Proviso West High School Key Club has been doing its part to spread holiday cheer around the community.

The service club, with more than 40 active members and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Westchester, has been working in the community in recent weeks to ensure that those who are less fortunate can have a happy holiday.

Forty teachers and students from Proviso West hosted the club’s annual Breakfast with Santa. Children and their parents were able to eat a good breakfast. They then got their photo taken with Santa Claus. In addition, several students as well as Proviso West High teachers participated in the "Giving Tree." The project purchased gifts for approximately 25 to 30 pre-selected individuals and families, said Charles Jalove, a Proviso West High counselor and the school’s Key Club sponsor.

Club members also helped with a food drive, collecting canned and other non-perishable food to put into Christmas baskets to give to needy families. Another project included helping with a clothing drive sponsored by the Proviso West High Student Council.

"It’s a service thing," Mr. Jalove said. "The key to life is to give some service. [The students are] really pleased with helping people."
