Forest Park, IL...Starting this summer, Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will offer its honors students an opportunity to accelerate learning by enrolling in an on-line Apex Honors Acceleration Program.
Apex Learning is the leading digital curriculum provider of blended and virtual learning for the nation’s public school districts. Schools across the country are successfully using Apex Learning digital curriculum to meet the needs of students—from building foundational skills to creating opportunities for advanced coursework. The curriculum helps to build students’ skills as they prepare for high school and college courses by providing a rigorous, honors college prep curriculum online.
"We are pleased to offer this additional learning opportunity for students who are motivated to challenge themselves through academic acceleration," said PTHS 209 Superintendent, Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. "Offering Apex courses is a great way for us to expand learning opportunities in District 209. Through this program, students are offered the opportunity to build and sharpen their skills in subjects of interest and prepare for coursework at the next academic level. It is also an opportunity for students to take additional coursework that their schedules might not allow during the regular school year."
Students who wish to participate in Apex Honors must apply and meet specific academic, attendance, and discipline criteria including:
- Completion of the sophomore year (10th grade) of high school with no credit deficiencies
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0
- Excellent attendance as evidenced by an attendance history
- Permission of the principal or his or her designee
- Excellent citizenship record as evidenced by discipline history
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
The cost of the Apex Honors program is $100 per semester/online course, $200 for a full year of online courses, and $234 for a NCAA Accredited course with an on-line teacher.
