Maywood, IL...Standing at 6’3 and over 200 pounds, Proviso East junior, Antony Greenhow of Maywood, is a force to be reckoned with on the football field. According to CBS sports analysts, the defensive end ranks 17th in the list of the top 30 athletes in the state of Illinois for the class of 2013. Greenhow’s athletic prowess is duly admired. Those abilities coupled with his academic achievements, musical talent, volunteer service efforts, and overall character make him stand out as a top athlete and a PTHS 209 Scholar of Excellence.
Greenhow maintains a 3.7 G.P.A. He is currently participating in PTHS 209’s Cambridge ACT Test Prep on Saturdays to help boost his test scores. He is a member of the football team, baseball team, and track team. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. He is president of the Young People’s Division at his church, Canaan A.M.E. where he volunteers to clean the church on weekends and serves as an assistant to the minister. The young man sings too. He often volunteers to sing for local organizations to earn more community service hours. He is a member of Maywood’s Youth on the Move, and he also mentors young men in the community. With a full schedule and the drive to succeed, Greenhow says his support system is what keeps him forging ahead.
"My mom is a big support for me, and I pray," said Antony. "Those two things are the reasons why I have been successful in so many things. I have friends that support me, but my biggest motivation is just to make my mom proud."
That, he does.
"I boast on him all the time," said Ms. Greenhow, when commenting on her son’s success. "He is a good kid. He’s really grounded, and he wants to do well. We live in a community where kids need a lot. I constantly motivate him, his friends, and his teammates. I encourage them all to do something better and to go beyond what they see around them. I am really proud of him. I have been blessed with a well-rounded, well-grounded child who really wants the best for himself and everyone around him."
Greenhow wants to go on to college to study psychiatry. Right now, with his athletic and academic talents, he is being recruited by the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota, and Iowa State University. Though he is not quite sure where he will go, he says he will always take the pride of his community and Proviso East with him.
"I want to be known as one of the best students to come out of here, and I want to give back when I leave," he said. "I just really hope to be a positive example."
Congratulations Antony! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
