Proviso West High School hosted its Future Panther Night for the Class of 2021 and their families on February 28, 2017. Event participants received a warm welcome from Mr. Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West, the Proviso West marching band, and the Pantherettes.
Future Panthers and their families also went on tours, led by Proviso West students, and spent the evening learning about curriculum, honors and advanced placement, Project Lead the Way, career and technical education courses, scheduling, freshmen registration, and athletics and activities.
There was also an exhibit organized by Project Lead the Way students. Project Lead the Way is a national provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs, according to its website. The curriculum, which relies on the students completing projects, is designed to boost math and science achievement and encourage students to consider engineering as a career path.
The future freshmen were fascinated by the 3D printer, demonstrations and robots assembled by Project Lead the Way students. Luigi Cabantog, a Junior and Project Lead the Way member at Proviso West, communicated to future Panthers that, "Proviso West has a lot to offer. Your teachers, counselors, and administrators care about your future. I suggest you take advantage of that to have a good start on your young adult life."
