Proviso West Inducts 32 Students Into National Honor Society

January 17, 2014 01:50 PM
The Proviso West High School National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 32 new members at its fall ceremony on December 11 at Proviso West High School.

To be inducted into the National Honor Society, a student needs to have at least four semesters in which they earn a grade point average of at least 3.0 of a possible 4.0. The students who meet this criterion are then contacted and invited to submit an application in which they answer questions about their leadership skills and community service as well as write an essay on why they believe they should be inducted.

Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West, said that the students represent some of the best at Proviso West.

"We stress strong academics, character, leadership, and service to the community," Mr. Hawthorne said. "The 32 students who are new members of the National Honor Society embody those ideals and are great examples of the education available at Proviso West. We congratulate them on their hard work and success."
