Some of the Chicagoland area’s best high school boys’ basketball teams will compete in the 53rd edition of the Proviso West Holiday Basketball Tournament December 21 through 31.
The first of 61 games will tip off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, with Libertyville playing Homewood-Flossmoor in the Sports Arena at Proviso West. Proviso East, who won the tournament in 2011, will play its first game at 6:30 p.m. on December 21 when it takes on Dunbar, while host Proviso West will play at 3:45 p.m. on December 26 against Rockford Auburn. "This tournament is supported so well by the community," said Mr. Joe Spagnolo, the tournament’s director. "It loves good basketball. We have a good blend of teams. It’s a perfect blend of basketball with all styles. If you like high school basketball, this is the place to be."
A new twist to this year’s tournament will feature the championship and third place games on December 31 being televised live on The U Too (WCIU-TV Channel 26.2/48.1, Comcast Xfinity Cable channels 248 and 360). The third place and championship games will begin at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively. All other games will be broadcast live online on High School Cube.
