Hillside, IL...Proviso West High School is working to offer more support to students, parents, and the Proviso community by developing its own School Based Health Center.

District 209 has developed a partnership with Circle Family HealthCare Network (CFHCN) to provide a community-based health facility that offers medical and preventive health services at no charge for the students of Proviso West.

CFHCN brings high-quality primary and preventive health care and behavioral health services to the medically underserved residents of Chicago’s West Side and its surrounding communities. In addition to medical and preventive health services, Proviso West’s School Based Health Center will offer enabling services, screening services, mental health services, substance abuse education, and health education. The clinic will also promote campaigns and lead initiatives that are designed to help reduce health disparities.

"For our high school aged students health care access is a critical issue," said Proviso West principal, Dr. Kirkwood. "This is a much needed project.  Having a school based health program will assist in providing our students with on-site access to healthcare."

The new facility will provide comprehensive medical care through the clinical space of three exam rooms, a laboratory, a nurse’s station, and a reception area for students. There will be a space for a therapist, health educator, and break room. All cost of renovations to help build the Proviso West School Based Health Center will be covered by a CFHCN secured federal grant, which was provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

District staff and CFHCN staff are working together to plan the implementation and launch of Proviso West’s student health center. The District is familiar with this process as Proviso East High School operates a similar center with Loyola University. It is anticipated that the clinic will be open to the public in 2012.
