PTHS D.209 Community Forum

May 3, 2017 09:37 AM
Superintendent of District 209 Jesse J. Rodriguez, Ph.D., invited community members to the Administration Building on April 20, 2017 to learn about the framework that outlines the long-term strategic plan for District 209. School principals and Central Services administrators also presented school and department plans.
The Administration Building’s auditorium was filled with approximately eighty participants and live stream video viewers (watch here) who enthusiastically waited to hear about the plan for PTHS D.209. The PMSA Gospel Choir opened the PTHS D.209 Community Forum with a performance under the direction of Mr. Matthew Brown. Dr. Rodriguez thanked the PMSA Gospel Choir for a wonderful performance and thanked all community leaders for their continuous contributions to the success of the Proviso school community.
The structured ideas, programs and school plans presented that evening were based on the conversations that took place between PTHS D.209 staff, students, and stakeholders during the participatory learning process. Dr. Rodriguez explained that throughout the year a number of town hall meetings, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board meetings, and ‘Teacher’s Pizza’ events took place to ensure that the community’s voice was heard and reflected in the District’s long-term strategic plan that is being developed.
Dr. Rodriguez also presented a revised organizational structure for Central Services that ensures organizational processes aligned to the three proposed board goals:
·         Enhance Academic Achievement
·         Ensure Effective and Efficient Operations
·         Empower Students, Families, and Communities
"The idea is to create an environment with a clear structure, defined mission, vision, and goals with transformational leaders who engage in collaborative work, as One Proviso, to ensure the academic success of all students through empowerment, equity, and excellence," said Rodriguez.
PTHS D.209 continues to maximize academic achievement for all students by focusing on empowerment, equity, and excellence and remaining committed the following core beliefs:
·         High expectations for all students, faculty, and staff yield positive self-worth, responsible behavior, and superior performance.
·         All learning environments are positive places to learn, grow, and work.
·         Collaboration with students, families, and community partners adds value.
·         Leadership and accountability are keys to our success.
These core beliefs serve as the framework that guides our goals, strategic objectives and initiatives.
Although it is projected that PTHS D.209 will be financially stable for the next four years, the idea is not to utilize extra dollars but instead repurpose and do things differently. Dr. Rodriguez is optimistic that PTHS D.209, with the support of internal and external partners, will provide students with an opportunity to be college, career, and global ready by repurposing, re-envisioning and aligning funding to educational needs.
Dr. Rodriguez closed the presentation by expressing that he is grateful for the opportunity to be part of a school community that exhibits so much pride. "I am committed to investing time and talent to PTHS D.209 to ensure that students continue to move forward academically," said Rodriguez.
