Forest Park, IL...Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy has been ranked by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Chicago Tribune as one of the top 50 achieving high schools in the state of Illinois. On Monday, November 14th, PMSA students, faculty, and parents gathered for "The PSAE Student Success Banquet" to thank and congratulate the seniors who made PMSA’s ranking possible.

"We are here this evening to honor 33 outstanding seniors for exceeding state standards in one or more areas on the Prairie State Achievement Exam," said PMSA principal, Mrs. Echols, who organized the school’s very first banquet to honor PSAE achievers. "It is because of the academic talent of these students that PMSA has ranked as one of the top 50 high schools in the state of Illinois."

Students, parents, faculty, and PTHS 209 administration were treated to a banquet featuring acknowledgements of the top 33 students and their parents. The program included student performances, dinner, and dessert. Following the banquet, students were recognized by the Board of Education and awarded certificates for their hard work and dedication to excellence.

"As a principal, I am very proud of our students and our faculty and staff for all that they have been able to accomplish," said Echols as she spoke to the Board. "I truly believe that students are more than test scores. These young people that we are honoring here today are active participants in clubs, activities, sports, as well as community service. They have demonstrated that they are wonderful people and phenomenal students who have a clear focus and unyielding commitment to achieving excellence in everything that they do."

The Board of Education all stood in honor of PMSA’s top achievers and the families who supported them. Though the students expressed pride for their accomplishments, perhaps the proudest moments were owned by the parents and family members present.

"I feel great," said PMSA parent, Delores Sanders, as she waited for her student’s name to be called. "I am so proud of all of the accomplishments and achievements that these young people have earned and displayed. As long as they keep a positive attitude and strive for the best, they can achieve. They just have to go for it. I am very proud."
