Forest Park, IL...The PMSA Pythons have done it again! Students were tested, performed, and demonstrated just why Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy is one of the top high schools in the state of Illinois.
For nearly a decade, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times have ranked hundreds of high schools across the state of Illinois based on their test scores and student performance. This year, PMSA ranked among the state’s top 50 high schools.
"It is an absolute honor for PMSA to be ranked as one of the top 50 schools in the state of Illinois," said PMSA principal, Mrs. Echols. "Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy is a very diverse school with a very talented pool of students, faculty, and staff. We don’t want to be just good, we want to be great. We have an unyielding focus on student achievement, exceeding educational standards, and working diligently to push PMSA all the way to the top."
PMSA’s ranking is based on its 2010 PSAE test results. Out of the top 50 highest performing schools, PMSA ranks number 40 in the Chicago land area, and number 49 in the state of Illinois. The majority of PMSA students met or exceeded educational standards. One hundred percent of students were tested in reading and math at PMSA. Over 72 percent of students met or exceeded state testing standards in reading, and over 72 percent met or exceeded the state standards in math. In a time where schools across the state are challenged to improve test scores, PMSA ranks among the best.
PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart and PTHS Board President Chris Welch extended their congratulations to PMSA students, faculty, and staff. Their accomplishment has been touted as an example of the type of academic success that is possible for all Proviso schools.
"This is exciting news for our district and our community," said Welch. "It shows us that we have the right people and programs in place to help students excel not just at PMSA, but across our entire school district. We are committed to this type of success for each and every one of our schools, and each of our students in District 209. PMSA students, faculty, and staff have set the bar, and we are very proud of them for that."
PMSA will host an awards banquet on Monday, November 14th to honor the school’s top performing students. At least 34 PMSA seniors exceeded standards on their PSAE exams which helped to contribute to the school’s overall ranking.
Congratulations Pythons! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
