Forest Park, IL...Proviso Township High Schools will offer free Cambridge ACT prep classes for students again this year. On December 15th, each school will host a Family Admissions Workshop to inform parents on how prep classes can help students reach their academic goals. This informational session will offer limited seats for students to enroll in ACT© prep classes to prepare for the test in April.
"The Family Admissions Workshop is the start of a great journey of learning and achievement for our students that we hope will continue throughout their lives," said PTHS 209 Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Cheryl Pruitt. "We want to meet with parents to show them how the ACT pep class can enhance students’ overall learning. It will not only prepare them for college, but it will also help them to improve in all of their classes and in state required testing. We want to do everything that we can to support our students and to improve their opportunities to earn scholarships and attend their college of choice."
All students who participated in ACT test prep over the last two years (and attended ALL sessions) were afforded the opportunity to visit with colleges and universities (sponsored by the district) for an entire week. The ACT Prep Program will be offered at Proviso East, Proviso West, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy at no cost for the first 100 students to sign-up at each school. ACT Test Prep classes are held each Saturday starting January 14, 2012 to April 21, 2012 (from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm). During the Parent Admissions Workshop, parents and students can learn more about ACT prep and how they can be a part of a wonderful opportunity that helps to improve achievement and academic success.
"The Family Admissions Workshop will help parents better understand how they can help support their students’ goals and what colleges are looking for in a successful student," said Yuval Trachtenberg, Vice President of Cambridge. "The programs offered by Proviso Township High Schools can be very beneficial to students and the community. Students will have higher [ACT test] results, and they will have better opportunities for getting into college."
Over the past two years, PTHS students saw two and three point gains on the ACT after participating in ACT prep courses. The extra tutoring and testing guidance strengthens students’ test taking skills and it helps to prepare them for higher learning.
PTHS 209’s Family Admissions Workshop will be held on December 15th at each high school from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. To learn more about Cambridge and the upcoming workshop please contact your school’s main office.
