Members of the Class of 2020 will be able to participate in District 209’s Freshman Transition Program August 15 and 16 at Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy.
The Freshman Transition Program is designed to provide incoming freshmen with the support that they will need for a successful start to their high school careers and to help them be comfortable in their new settings. This is in addition to the traditional Freshman Orientation, which will occur on August 19 and is the first day of attendance for all freshmen.
During the course of the two-day program, the students will learn tips for becoming a successful high school student, different ways to get involved in activities at their school, and how to begin preparing for life after high school. They also learn how to develop positive relationships with each other and school staff, play games, have an ice cream social, learn about high school life, and have discussions about their concerns, anxieties, and needs as they move into high school. In addition, they will learn good study skills and habits that will help them be successful in high school.
Those attending should bring their identification and wear the required uniforms.
For more information, please contact your student’s school. The first day of the 2016-2017 school year for sophomores, juniors, and seniors is Monday, August 22.
