More than 800 fans of the blue and white made their way down to Peoria, cheering on the Pirates.
Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East, said that the school was proud of the players and coaches.
"I’m very proud of our kids and their accomplishments," he said. "It shows what a magical coach and magical kids can do."
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, said that she also was proud of the team’s accomplishments.
"I, for one, am very proud of our team’s accomplishment, and they should be as well," she said. "The success of the basketball team infused such a positive spirit into Proviso East, and I hope that that same spirit will continue throughout the year. I also know that this accomplishment took a great deal of time and work on the part of the coaches and the leadership team."
