Maywood, IL...We call them the Fab Five. Five Proviso East High School seniors led the Lady Pirates basketball team to many victories on the basketball court. Now, the young ladies are taking their talents to the collegiate level. All have been offered full four-year scholarships with major colleges and universities.

Proviso East twin sisters Jaliria Wells and Jakeisha Wells have signed with the University of Arkansas. Jaliria hopes to study business marketing while Jakeisha has an interest in forensic science and criminal justice. Proviso East senior, Demetria Watson will attend Missouri Baptist University to study sports management and criminal justice. Tiara Johnson will attend Milwaukee Technical College to study veterinarian medicine. Kalea Parks plans to attend Drury University as a business major.

The ladies say that they are excited, privileged, and prepared for study and competition at the next level.

"This is a privilege for us because not everyone gets these kinds of offers," said Kalea. "We feel lucky to have full scholarships. We are looking forward to college—playing at higher levels of intensity, and continuing to be disciplined. We've learned all of that here, at Proviso. So we are ready, and we are definitely prepared for college."

Coach PridGeon and Coach Carswell agree. The goal of the Proviso East Girls’ Basketball Program is to help produce scholars and athletes, but scholars first. They have supported the girls through their four years of high school and stood behind them as they made their college choices.

"They have worked hard to get these scholarships," said Coach PridGeon. "We want the young ladies on our team to be student athletes in every sense of the word. That is our goal. Seeing the number of students who get scholarships through our program is a blessing for us and for them. It lets us know that we have done a good job, and it makes our community extremely proud to see these young ladies go on to play and represent us at the college level. We are really proud of them."

Congratulations, Lady Pirates! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
