Maywood, IL...Proviso East Alumni and Common Roots Initiative (CRI) founders plan to offer a $1,000.00 scholarship to an eligible Proviso East student and a Proviso East teacher. The extra financial resources are intended to provide financial support for their college and career goals.
Common Roots Initiative (CRI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that gives financial support to educators and college-bound students. As an independently-run public charity, CRI aims to provide at least two scholarships to a college-bound student and high school teacher from the west suburban Cook County area by the end of 2012. Because the organization’s founders are graduates of Proviso East High School, Proviso East applicants have priority.
"We used 'Common Roots' in our name because we have a great desire to help in our community," said CRI Vice President and 1995 alum, Kesha Green. "Five out of six of our board members graduated from Proviso East High School. We all benefited from the extra efforts of our teachers. We remember the struggles that we went through as students, and that is why we chose to start providing scholarships to students and teachers at Proviso East first."
CRI will award one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who is planning to attend a trade school, junior college, or university this coming fall. CRI will also award one $1,000 scholarship to a high school teacher for classroom materials. Student and teacher applications should be submitted online and all required supplemental materials must be sent to CRI by Friday, March 2, 2012
