Maywood, IL...Proviso East High School Alumni have done it again. This time it is the class of 1956 who have stepped up to support the success of today’s young Pirates.
The class of 1956 will offer a $3,000 scholarship for one lucky Proviso East senior who is a member of the National Honor Society.
"We had money that we had been carrying over from reunion to reunion," said Proviso East Class of 1956 secretary, Judy Berg. "After our 50th reunion, we decided that the gift should go back to our school. The class officers and 50th reunion committee members have decided to offer a one-time scholarship to a National Honor Society senior."
The application is specifically set aside for seniors who are in the National Honor Society. The funds will be sent directly to the student’s school of choice. Applicants must submit their application complete with a written essay, a statement of their educational goals, and community recommendations. Applications are due Monday, April 30, 2012. Interviews and selection of the recipient will take place in May. The class of 1956 will return to Pirate Country to present the scholarship on Class Day. For the class of 1956, it will not only be a return to their beloved alma mater, but it will also be their chance to help support future alum.
"We all remember Proviso East with great fondness," Berg said. "We appreciate the friends we made there and the wonderful education we received. This scholarship is our opportunity to give back."
