Former and current students along with faculty, staff and the Proviso East High School community celebrated Homecoming October 21 through 26.
It was a week of activities and spirit days that culminated with the annual homecoming parade led by Mickey and Minnie Mouse as the grand marshals, the football game, and the annual Homecoming dance as Proviso East celebrated the theme, "A Whole New World."
"We had a great week celebrating Pirate Pride and everything that is great about Proviso East," said Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East. "Proviso East has always been a great school, and we need to be sure to continue to mark those achievements of past students as well as current students."
The week began with a series of spirit days, including School Daze (wear your favorite college gear), International World Day (dress in ethnic wear or the flag colors of a country), Disney World Day, Back to the Future, and Blue and White Day (the school’s colors). Friday, October 25, was marked by a pep rally filled with games such as class musical chairs, performances by the marching band and Pirateers, and the introduction of the football team.
The Homecoming Court, including the Homecoming King and Queen, were also crowned and recognized. Winning this year’s crown as Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen were Donald Glover and Stephanie Gonzalez. Stephanie said that she was surprised at being named homecoming queen.
"Look at me now," she said. "I’m wearing the crown."
Donald said that it was exciting to be named as homecoming king.
"It’s a pleasure to be homecoming king," he said. "I get to represent Proviso East in a positive way."
