Forest Park, IL...On Saturday, October 24th, 2009, Proviso’s Golden Apple Teachers of Distinction and Golden Apple Teachers across Illinois will host a “Teachers of Tomorrow” Conference to inspire students to pursue teaching careers, and to encourage teachers who are new to the field.

“This workshop is the perfect opportunity to find out what being a teacher is all about and how to become one,” said Proviso East Golden Apple Teacher Glen Lid. “The Golden Apple Teachers of Illinois have been recognized as those who light knowledge on fire. Their techniques are imaginative and energetic. We need more well trained and passionate teachers, now more than ever before. Teachers touch the future.”

The conference will also present students with an opportunity to secure college funding. One of Golden Apple’s many statewide initiatives is the Scholar’s Program. All Golden Apple Scholars receive tuition assistance. The funding is paid directly to the Scholar’s undergraduate institution. In return, Scholars pursue a bachelor’s degree from an Illinois university, obtain Illinois teacher certification, and teach in a school of need for at least five years. They also receive support throughout their careers.

This opportunity to explore, consider, and enhance ideas about teaching is offered absolutely free by Golden Apple. The “Teachers of Tomorrow Conference” will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the National Teachers Academy (55 West Cermak Road Chicago, IL).
