PTHS 209 Hosts SES Fair for Parents

Forest Park, IL...On October 29th 2009, Proviso Township High Schools hosted a Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Fair for the parents of PTHS.

The fair, which was scheduled during report card pick-up, gave parents an opportunity to register their students for free tutoring services. Parents were able to choose from over 10 SES providers from across the state of Illinois.

“This is a great way to help our kids do better,” said Proviso West Parent Perla Rios, who attended the fair with her son, a sophomore at PW. “As parents, we really are interested in how our students are doing. They need something to help them feel more confident in their school work and to help them improve. So, it is great to see a fair like this and to talk with the principal about ways that we can help make sure that our kids get what they need.”

The SES Fair featured representatives from educational assistance providers. The reps spoke with parents about how their particular service works to help bridge students’ learning gaps, accelerate student learning, and improve performance in the classroom. SES providers offer students tutoring in reading, language arts and mathematics. Students may receive extra help before or after school, on weekends, during intercessions or during the summer, at no cost to the family.

“This is a very engaged group of parents,” said Joe Smith, a representative for Academic Advantage. “Parents are flooding here and are asking questions about our services, and they’re trying to see how we can help their students excel. We work with a lot of parents and all of the organizations are here to provide educational support. All the parents have to do is sign up.”

PTHS will continue to offer free tutoring services to Proviso East and Proviso West High School students. Parents must complete an SES application to register their students. To see a description of which tutoring programs are available and to find out how to sign up, please click here.
