Proviso Township High Schools Prepares for All School Testing: Test Dates April 24th & April 25th
April 20, 2012 09:00 AM
Forest Park, IL...Proviso Township High Schools students will begin high stakes testing next week. Students across the state take standardized tests each spring to evaluate their knowledge at their grade levels.
On Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th juniors will take the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE). Freshmen and sophomores will take EXPLORE and PLAN tests on Tuesday.
"We are preparing students for testing next week," said PTHS 209 Superintendent, Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. "We are holding rallies to get our students motivated. We are also soliciting parent help in ensuring that students are well rested and well prepared for test day. It is important that parents be involved with these dates. With support and planning, parents can help our students succeed."
The PSAE assessment measures the performance of high school students in grade 11 in reading, mathematics, writing and science. Most of the PSAE test questions are from the ACT assessments of English, reading, mathematics, writing and science. Also included are ACT's two WorkKeys assessments, Reading for Information and Applied Mathematics. WorkKeys measures workplace readiness skills.
The PLAN test is a "pre-ACT" test administered to high school sophomores. In addition to predicting a student’s performance on the ACT, the PLAN test measures academic achievement in English, math, reading, and science.
The EXPLORE test is administered to students in 9th grade, and is also a "pre-ACT" test. It identifies student aptitudes and helps high school administrators develop appropriate individual coursework and career planning programs. It also helps students to identify their strengths and weaknesses as they enter a crucial period in their education.
Parents can lend students a hand during testing week by ensuring that students eat a balanced dinner before test day and a good breakfast on test day. It is also important for students to get a good night's sleep and be on time (or even early) to school on test day. In addition, it helps for parents to talk to their children about the importance of the test.
PTHS 209 Juniors will test on both days (Apr 24th& Apr 25th). Day #1 of the Prairie State Achievement Exam for juniors will be the ACT. Day #2 of the Prairie State Achievement Exam consists of ISBE-developed science, WorkKeys Applied Math, and WorkKeys Reading for Information tests. Juniors taking the PSAE will be dismissed at the end of testing on both days. All students who are testing should report to their assigned testing locations by 7:50 am.
PTHS 209 freshmen and sophomores will only participate on Day #1 of testing (Apr 24th). Sophomores will take the PLAN and the freshmen will take the EXPLORE. Following the testing period, freshman and sophomore students will be dismissed (approximately 12:50 pm). On day 2 of testing, freshman and sophomore students will be in school for the entire day.
All students must have two #2 pencils and a calculator.
Good Luck Students!
